6 Months Into Recovery

How to get through your first 6 months of recovery?

Do I have all the answers? No....but here are some tips which may help.

People were shocked when I shared that I was an addict. This disease can affect anyone and will debilitate even the strongest among us. Here are some tips that worked well for me in my first 6 months of recovery.

Tip #1 - Admit defeat.

You are not responsible for your disease but you are responsible for your recovery. Recovery is hard...but it is possible. The faster that you admit that your life has become unmanageable the faster you can start the process of healing.

Tip #2 - Share/Get Help

An addict alone is in bad company. It's time to rebuild your life and your associations. Talk to people about your struggles and you'll be overwhelmed with the amount of support. This is where I went to start my recovery journey.

Tip #3 - Create New Rewards

You still deserve to live your life and reward yourself. Start by creating a new reward system which does not involve drugs and alcohol.

Tip #4 - Journal/Meditate/Gym

I don't have all the answers when it comes to recovery. These three methods of self love are what works best for me. I have other friends in recovery that enjoy Yoga. The important part is to figure out what works best for you. Take some time to work on you, and become the person that you needed yourself to be in active addiction.

Tip #5 - Keep Coming Back

Each day sober is another successful day. The most important thing is to keep coming back.

Even on our weakest days, we still become a little bit stronger.
